Last October 20- 24, 2014, Davao City was given the honor of holding the biggest expo and business conference at the SMX Convention Center. It was in commemoration of BIMP EAGA or Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Philippines Eastern East Asian Growth Area’s 20th year and Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand Growth Triangle’s (IMT-GT) 2nd year. The well-attended expo was aptly entitled “Realizing the Opportunities of ASEAN Integration”.
This said integration is a plan for ten states to convene and pursue the improvement of economic growth, social progress, cultural collaboration and partnership in the international community. ASEAN Leaders met in 2007 and agreed that in 2015, the integration will be put in order. The ASEAN community is working hard on the three pillars: ASEAN Political-Security Community, ASEAN Economic Community and the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community. These are made to address the different challenges that affect both regional and international arenas.
Just this year, Philippine President Benigno C. Aquino has expressed his support the physical and social connectivity. The establishment of efficient routes for transportation which translates to an improved economic performance of the country. He also expressed his enthusiasm in improving the country’s information and technology connectivity.
The 6th NICP Summit highly complements the objectives of the BIMP-EAGA and IMT-GT Trade Fair and Business Conference. The summit ushered more opportunities for local key players in creating links with their ICT counterparts from the BIMP-EAGA group. They held an excellent platform for the participants in sharing the best practices as well as get updated in the current industry trends. The venue is very ideal for exploration and creating deals for potential investments and project collaborations.
Davao City was also the host city when BIMP-EAGA was launched in 1994, making the city very significant for the group.
